LARC (long acting reversible contraception) clinic

All long-acting methods of contraception are very effective (99%) reliable and safe.

We offer a range of long-lasting methods for you to plan your family.

No worries about forgetting to take them.

You can stop using them if you decide you want to get pregnant.

Implants

A small flexible rod that is placed just under your skin in your upper arm which releases progestogen hormone similar to the natural progesterone that women produce in their ovaries and works for up to 3 years.

Intra Uterine Device (IUD or the Coil)

A small plastic and copper device is put into the uterus which stops sperm reaching an egg and may also stop a fertilised egg implanting in the uterus.  Can stay in 5-10 years depending on the type.

Intra Uterine System (IUS)

A small T-shaped plastic device which releases the hormone progestogen is put into the uterus.  This thins the lining of the uterus to prevent a fertilised egg implanting, thickens cervical mucus to prevent sperm reaching an egg and may stop ovulation.  Can stay in for 5 years.

Contraceptive injection

It releases the hormone progestogen which stops ovulation, thickens cervical mucus to prevent sperm reaching an egg and thins the lining of the uterus to prevent a fertilised egg implanting.  Lasts for 12 weeks (Depo-Provera) or 13 weeks (Sayana Press).
